From the garden trap 02/06/2010

Warming up again, so the traps were out last night with a total catch this morning being 82 of 25sp (125W MV 33 of 22, 80W actinic 49 of 15). Most obvious thing was that Light Brown Apple Moths have emerged en masse.

First for year in garden:
1301 Crambus lathoniellus 1
2387 Mottled Rustic (Caradrina morpheus) 1
2492 Small Fan-foot (Herminia grisealis) 1

Highest counts:
0998 Light Brown Apple Moth (Epiphyas postvittana) 27
1834 Common Pug (Eupithecia vulgata) 11
1764 Common Marbled Carpet (Chloroclysta truncata) 5
1819 Mottled Pug (Eupithecia exiguata) 5
2089 Heart and Dart (Agrotis exclamationis) 4

Best of the rest:
0449 Ash Bud Moth (Prays fraxinella) 1
0610 Elachista argentella 1
1778 May Highflyer (Hydriomena impluviata) 1
2028 Pale Tussock (Calliteara pudibunda) 1
2441 Silver Y (Autographa gamma) 1

Also in the garden last night was this Hedgehog ..

I've seen very few so far this year (not even flat ones on the roads). This one was taking a distinct interest in the moth trap - competition for the Frogs and early morning Robin I guess.
