Cattle Egret 05/05/2009

After yesterday's debacle, I was equally pleased and bemused to discover this morning that the Cattle Egret was back on Lagoon 1. Luckily, today it decided to loaf around on view all day so when I arrived late afternoon it was just a matter of pointing the scope in the right direction. Getting any photos was another matter though as it remained out of range during my visit, meaning I could only get distant record shots for heavy cropping on photoshop. At least you can see what it is. Unless you don't know what a Cattle Egret is, or what one looks like. Also loafing around Lagoon 1, amongst more regular RW loafers, was a very nice brace of drake Garganey and a scraggy looking first-summer Mediterranean Gull. On the way home, I dropped into Victoria Park to join a select band of blokes in the bushes. To look at a Wood Warbler. Not that it was showing well whilst I was there - very difficult to see and it wasn't singing too much either. A few brief glimpses, with the most prolonged view being c30 seconds. A good bird nonetheless.
